Taking a major decision, Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration has canceled the manufacturing license of Johnson's Baby Powder of Johnson & Johnson Pvt Ltd in Mulund, Mumbai. The decision has been taken after the powder samples taken in Pune and Nashik were declared not of standard quality by the government.

Baby powder maker Johnson & Johnson said in August 2022 that it would stop producing talcum powder from 2023. It was said on behalf of the company that it has been troubled by the lawsuits due to the production of talcum powder, so it has taken this decision. The company has already stopped the production of talcum powder in the US and Canada.
In the past few years, there have been allegations of cancer from the company's baby powder. Due to this the company had to fight a long legal battle. Sales of the company's products also saw a significant drop when the cancer scare report came to the fore. According to media reports, the company will now produce starch based powder instead of talc based powder.
