Lok Sabha By Election: 46% in Azamgarh, 37% in Rampur till 5 pm
In Azamgarh, 45.97 percent voter turnout has been recorded till 5 pm. On the other hand, 37.02 percent voting has been done till 5 pm in the Lok Sabha by-election in Rampur.
By-elections for Azamgarh and Rampur Lok Sabha were held on Thursday, June 23. Less than 50 percent voting was recorded in Azamgarh. About 46 percent voting has taken place in Azamgarh. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, there was 57.40 percent voting here. Accordingly, a drop of more than 11 percent has been registered in the voting percentage. Voting for the by-elections to Rampur and Azamgarh Lok Sabha had started from 7 am.
Azamgarh Lok Sabha seat fell vacant after the resignation of Akhilesh Yadav. Azam Khan had resigned from the Rampur seat. Akhilesh Yadav's cousin Dharmendra Yadav was in the electoral fray from Azamgarh seat. Whereas, Asim Raja, who was considered close to Azam Khan from Rampur seat.
BJP had retained its old candidate Dinesh Lal Yadav alias Nirhua from Azamgarh seat. At the same time, BSP had bet on Guddu Jamali. BJP's candidate from Rampur seat was Ghanshyam Lodhi. Congress did not field candidates in both the seats.
