Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge has filed the nomination to contest for the Congress party’s presidential poll, Rajya Sabha MP Pramod Tiwari said on Friday, PTI reported. After this, Digvijay Singh retracted his nomination.
Singh said, "I have worked all my life for Congress and will continue to do so. I have assured Kharge Ji of my support as he wishes to contend for the positions.
After Singh's withdrawal, only Shashi Tharoor, and Digvijaya Singh are in line for the Congress President Candidate. This election will decide the successor to the longest-serving party president Sonia Gandhi and is scheduled to take place on October 17. The last date to file nominations is Friday, and the result will be declared two days post elections.
Earlier, Tharoor had mentioned, "Received a visit from @digvijaya_28 this afternoon. I welcome his candidacy for the Presidency of our Party. We both agreed that ours is not a battle between rivals but a friendly contest among colleagues. All we both want is that whoever prevails, @incIndia will win!✋????????"
Last week, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also said that he will be contesting for the Congress president’s post. However, on Thursday, he said he was out of the race.

KN Tripathi Files Nomination For Congress President making him the Third Candidate
Former Jharkhand Minister KN Tripathi became the third member to file his nomination. Before filing his application, he said, "I'll file my nomination at 1 pm today (for Congress President post). Rahul Gandhi & party chief Sonia Gandhi have said that they're neither requesting anyone to contest nor declining anyone it. We want to see what the rank and file of the party want.
