Lakhimpur Kheri Case: Charges framed against Ashish Mishra, the main accused in Lakhimpur Kheri violence
On April 24, Ashish, son of Union Minister Ajay Kumar Mishra Teni, was sent to Lakhimpur Kheri Jail in judicial custody for 14 days. On December 6, 2022, ADJ court framed charges against 13 other accused including Ashish Mishra alias Monu.
The ADJ court has framed charges against the main accused Ashish Mishra alias Monu and 13 other accused in the case of death of eight people, including four farmers, in the Tikunian violence in Lakhimpur last year.
On October 3, a journalist, four farmers and three BJP workers were killed in the Kheri violence. On October 4, a case was registered against Ashish Mishra, son of the Union Minister of State, and 15-20 unknown people at Tikunia police station for the murder of a journalist and four farmers in the Kheeri violence case. On October 4 itself, a second case was registered against 20-25 unknown people for the murder and arson of three BJP workers in the Kheeri violence case. On October 8, the police called Ashish Mishra for statement by giving notice, but he did not appear due to illness.
On October 9, Ashish Mishra reached the police line with his advocate Awadhesh Kumar Singh. He was taken into custody after a 12-hour-long interrogation. After this, he was presented before the remand magistrate at night and sent to jail. On October 11, there was a hearing on the police custody remand. Ashish's police custody remand approved from October 12 to October 15. On October 14, Ashish Mishra was taken to the spot and a recreation was done. Ashish's bail application was rejected by the CJM court on October 14. On October 21, the application for police custody remand was given again. On October 22, 48 hours police custody remand was approved. On October 28, the hearing on the bail application of Ashish Mishra was to be held in the district judge's court. Prosecution filed adjournment, fixed for November 3. Due to the condolence motion on November 3, the hearing on the bail application was adjourned and was fixed for November 15.
On February 14, the amendment application was approved in the High Court and the release of Ashish was ordered. The order for Ashish's release reached the jail on February 15, after which he was released in the evening. On April 18, the Supreme Court canceled Ashish's bail and asked him to surrender within a week.
