Kolkata: On Saturday morning, a 33-year-old man, undergoing treatment at a Private Hospital in Kolkata fell from the seventh floor of the Hospital Building. The patient escaped from his bed and for over two hours, sat at the edge of the cornice, following which he fell off and injured himself. The patient has been identified as Sujit Adhikary.
Adhikari was undergoing treatment at the Institute of Neurosciences from where he sneaked to the cornice. As per the hospital sources, he did that with the help of a shattered window. After reaching there, he sat on the edge and looked at the pedestrians and the bystanders. Following the incident, the authorities tried to bring him down, but all the attempts turned out futile. A hydraulic ladder was also brought in by the authorities but Sujit threatened to jump if the ladder was brought any closer. He ignored all the pleas and requests of the Officials who tried to get him off the edge safely.
At around 1 pm, he fell off and critically injured his skull, rib cage, and left hand. As per the hospital officials, the injury is critical.
A fire Brigade Officer said, “We tried to reach him with hydraulic ladders. But every time we went near, he would threaten to jump and move away. His family members also arrived but he didn’t listen to anybody. Attempts were also made to reach him through the window. But even that failed.”
