Journalist Passes Away In Unknown Condition Days After Exposing UP's Liquor Mafia
Sulabh Srivastava, a Pratapgarh-based reporter for ABP Ganga, died in unknown circumstances on Sunday night, only days after exposing the Uttar Pradesh liquor cartel.
On Sunday night, a television journalist from Uttar Pradesh's Pratapgarh area was found dead under strange circumstances. Sulabh Srivastava, who worked for ABP News and ABP Ganga, wrote to the Uttar Pradesh Police a day before his death, stating that he felt intimidated as a result of his recent reporting on the district's booze mafias.
“Around 11 p.m. on Sunday, Srivastava was returning on his motorcycle after media coverage. He was riding his motorcycle when he crashed into a brick kiln. He was hauled off the road by some labourers, who then used his phone to call his buddies. He was transferred to the district hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead, according to the Pratapgarh police.
Sanjay Singh, an AamAadmi Party MP, has also raised questions about the death of ABP Ganga journalist Sulabh Srivastav. It has been dubbed "murder" by Sanjay Singh. "A journalist gets killed in UP for reporting on the liquor mafia, Sulabh ji had written a letter to the ADG apprehension of murder a day ago, but everyone remained sleeping," he tweeted.
Akhilesh Yadav, the head of the Samajwadi Party, inquired why Srivastava was not given protection when he requested it in a tweet. “It's terrible that a TV reporter died mysteriously in an apparent accident. In this case, the BJP government should launch a high-level investigation and explain to the family members and the public why the reporter was not provided security despite his fear of being murdered by the liquor mafia”, he said.
Priyanka Gandhi also raised her voice against this accident.
Editor's Guild of India released a press statement condemning the handling of Sulabh Srivastava’s case by police officials.
