India Braces for Heatwave: April to June Forecast Shows THESE States Most Affected
India Braces for Heatwave: In April-June, most regions of the country will experience above-normal temperatures, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
Gujarat, Maharashtra, North Karnataka, Odisha, West Madhya Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh are also under heatwave alerts.
"Temperatures are around 37-40 degrees Celsius in Madhya Pradesh at present and are likely to go up to 42 degrees next week. Since 90 percent of the wheat harvesting in the state is over, there will be no effect," said Mohapatra.
In Madhya Pradesh, where the temperature is currently near 37-40 degrees Celsius, a slight rise (up to 42 degrees) is likely.
Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh will not be affected by the heatwave, even if it exceeds 35 degrees. Gujarat, Central Maharashtra, North Karnataka, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, North Chhattisgarh, and Andhra Pradesh are likely to be the worst affected by the heat, according to Mohapatra.
In April, there's a chance of above-normal heatwaves in central India, the northern plains, and south India, according to the weather office.
According to Mohapatra, heat waves will last two to eight days in these regions, compared to a normal period of one to three days.
According to Mohapatra, El Nino conditions could prevail until May and then neutralize in June, while La Nina conditions are expected in the second half of the monsoon season (July-September).
Wheat is sown in October and harvested in most parts around April. The increasing heat will not affect the harvest-ready wheat crop, according to the weather officer.
