I never believed something so barbaric can happen in modern Bengal, says Mamta Banarjee on Bengal Killings
“I never believed something so barbaric can happen in modern Bengal. Mothers and children were killed," she said. Banarjee said she smells a larger conspiracy in all of this and asked the police to investigate all the possible angles.
Birbhum: Today, the Chief Minister of Bengal, Mamata Banerjee arrived at the village in Bengal's Birbhum. On Tuesday, eight people were burnt alive by an angry mob in the same village, which triggered a gigantic political backlash. Reportedly, this violence was triggered after Bhadu Sheikh, a deputy Pradhan of Baguti Village in Rampurhat was murdered. The mob who was in support of the leader attacked the houses of the opposition gang, stormed inside their houses, and burnt eight of them alive. Banarjee came to visit the families who lost someone.
Mamta Banarjee has been criticized by the opposition BJP for standing and becoming a mere spectator while Law and Order witnesses collapse in the state. “I never believed something so barbaric can happen in modern Bengal. Mothers and children were killed," she said. Banarjee said she smells a larger conspiracy in all of this and asked the police to investigate all the possible angles.
She also added, "I don't want any excuses that people have run away. I want people responsible to be arrested and policemen to be punished for lapses. Witnesses must be given protection by police from possible attacks. Those whose homes have been burnt must be given ₹ 1 lakh to repair the houses.” Later on, the amount was incremented to ₹ 2 lakh each.
