Hindu side wins the first battle of Gyanvapi Masjid, Established Kashi Vishwanath was demolished four times, while mosque stood on Temple Ruins
A single bench of district Judge AK Vishvesh delivering the verdict in the Gyanvapi Shrinagar Gauri dispute case holds case is maintainable
Varanasi Court has allowed the hearing of the petition for the worship of Maa Shringar Gauri inside the Gyanvapi Masjid complex. The court rejected the challenge of the Anjuman Islamia Masjid Committee challenging this petition. This dispute between Kashi Vishwanath Temple and Gyanvapi Mosque is centuries old. There were riots for the first time over this dispute 213 years ago. With this, the Varanasi district court deems the Hindu side on the Gyanvapi mosque issue as maintainable. The next hearing is scheduled on Sept 22.
The petition said that the remains of the temple were used in the mosque, so this land should be given back to the Hindu community. According to the petition, the Places of Worship Act 1991 is not applicable in this case as the mosque was built from the remains of the temple.
After an order of the Supreme Court on the validity of the stay order of the High Court, the hearing in the matter started again in the Varanasi Court in 2019. In 2020, Anjuman Inazatiya opposed the petition for conducting an archaeological survey. In the same year, Rastogi appealed to the lower court to resume the hearing, citing the High Court not extending the stay.
