This was announced on Tuesday, taking charge of his first international coaching assignment, which was the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka later this month, he was handed the charge of the team till the end of 2027.

Jay Shah, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wrote, “Having endured the grind and excelled in various roles throughout his career, I am confident that Gautam is the ideal person to steer Indian cricket forward,” on his personal social media handle, on Tuesday.

Natasha Jain, wife of Gautam Gambhir, expressed her support for her husband by posting stories on Instagram, she wrote, "Because he deserves to lead...," showing her confidence in Gambhir's capability to lead the Indian Cricket Team.
Gautam Gambhir has never coached a professional cricket team but his successful mentorship in the IPL has prepared him well for his new role.
The journey from a player to an Indian cricket team captain has been remarkable. His experience as a two-time World Cup winner and former politician, expected him to bring a new perspective to the Indian cricket team.
