First e-vehicle charging station launched in South Extension in South Delhi
The rising air pollution is one of the major issues that Delhi, the country’s capital is facing today. Both the state government as well as the Centre is trying to take immediate measures to curb the air pollution. One of these measures is to create solar powered e-vehicle charging station at various places in Delhi.

One of these measures is to create solar-powered e-vehicle charging stations at various places in Delhi.
In this direction, TCIL, a Mini Ratna Category-1 Status Company under the Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications, launched its first e-vehicle charging station in South Extension Part I in South Delhi on January 20, 2022.
It was done with the support of South Delhi Municipal Corporations and Meenakshi Lekhi, Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture inaugurated this launch in the presence of Sanjeev Kumar, CMD, TCIL & other dignitaries of the area.
The Ministry of Communications said, "This e-vehicle charging station is the first one in a series of 65 e-charging stations to be set up by TCIL in a progressive manner in next four months in South Delhi area within easy reach of citizens of Delhi. Each charging station can charge 6 Two/Three/ Four wheeler vehicles at a time."
"The charging stations are equipped with CCTV surveillance & Wi-fi facility for use by the common public. It is also powered by a 6 kW solar panel. The e-vehicle charging station will help in popularizing the use of e-vehicle and in reducing pollution in the metro city of Delhi," it added.
