The Congress Working Committee (CWC), the top policy-making body of the Congress, met on Sunday. In the meeting, many important points including the election of the Congress President were discussed. Meanwhile, the date for the election of the Congress President was also announced. According to the information, the election for the post of Congress President will be held on October 17. At the same time, counting of votes will be done on 19. The last date for filing nominations is from September 24 to September 30. At the same time, the date of scrutiny is October 1.
In this online meeting chaired by Congress President Sonia Gandhi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, former party president Rahul Gandhi, general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, senior leaders Anand Sharma, KC Venugopal, Jairam Ramesh, Mukul Wasnik, party's Central Election Authority chief Madhusudan Mistry and many other senior leaders attended. Several major issues were discussed in the CWC meeting, including the Halla Bol rally on inflation in New Delhi on 4 September and the starting of the India Jodo Yatra from Kanyakumari on 7 September.
In recent times, many differences have emerged within the Congress. Senior party leader Gulab Nabi Azad had on Friday resigned from the primary membership and all posts of the party. He had alleged that the Congress leadership was cheating in the name of internal elections. He also accused Rahul Gandhi of "immature and childish" behaviour.
The Congress retaliated, accusing him of betraying the party and said that his 'DNA has become Modi-may'. Let us tell you that according to the program approved by the CWC last year, the process of election of the Congress President was to be completed between August 21 and September 20.
