After a meeting in the day with the Union Health Secretary and the Chief Health Secretaries of the five states, the Election Commission of India has extended the ban on Election Rallies till January 31.

Though the ban on the roadshows and rallies won’t cease to exist, but the Commission gave certain relaxations for the first two phases of voting due on February 10 and 14. The Election Commission had banned election rallies and roadshows till January 15 initially. Later, the Commission extended the curbs till January 22 for the five states holding elections from next month - Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa.
