In a big relief to students, the Ministry of Education has decided to waive off the marks criteria for those class 12 students who wish to appear in Joint Entrance Exams for the academic session 2021-22.
Students appear in JEE (Main) to get admission in NITs, IIITs, SPAs, and other CFTIs.
Considering the pandemic and disruption of normal classroom studies, the government has said that to score 75 percent marks in class 12 will no more be criteria to appear in JEE (Main).
Minister for Education Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank took to his Twitter handle and tweeted about the Ministry’s decision in this regard.
He posted, “Considering the decision taken for IIT JEE(Advanced) and in line with the decision taken for the last academic year, it has been decided to waive off the 75% marks (in class 12 exam) eligibility criteria under Joint Entrance Examination (Main) for the next academic year 2021-2022.”
JEE (Advanced) and JEE (Main) are conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). While JEE (Advanced) is for admission to the Indian Institute of Technologies, JEE (Main) is for many other undergraduate courses in technology, engineering, science, and architecture in centrally funded technical institutes.
“For the candidates to qualify for admission in the IITs / NITs / IIITs and such other CFTis whose admissions are based on the JEE Ranks, they should have secured at least 75% marks in the 12th Class exam, or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th Class exam conducted by the respective Boards. For SC/ST students, the qualifying mark in 12th Class exam is 65%,” a press statement released by the Ministry of Education said.
