ED chief SK Mishra's tenure extended by the central government for the third time
SK Mishra was appointed as the director of ED on November 19, 2018. Due to the fixed tenure of the ED director being two years, his tenure was ending next week. Mishra, 60, is a 1984 batch Indian Revenue Service officer in the Income Tax cadre.
Enforcement Directorate chief SK Mishra has got one more year extension. This is the third extension in his service. With this extension, he will complete five years in this post next year. Last year, SK Mishra became the first officer in the Enforcement Directorate to get a one-year extension.
SK Mishra was appointed as the director of ED on November 19, 2018. Due to the fixed tenure of the ED director being two years, his tenure was ending next week. Mishra, 60, is a 1984 batch Indian Revenue Service officer in the Income Tax cadre.
SK Mishra has held various positions in the Income Tax Department and has also served in the Foreign Tax Department of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), which deals with cases of Indians hiding money abroad. He also played a key role in the department's investigation into the involvement of the Nehru-Gandhi family in the National Herald case and some other major cases.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had stopped the tenure of Enforcement Directorate director Sanjay Kumar Mishra from extending beyond November 16, 2021. In its judgment dated September 8, 2021, in a case filed by Common Cause, the Supreme Court had directed that no further extension should be granted to SK Mishra, whose tenure as ED director was to end on November 16, 2021.
