India's position has improved in the Aviation Safety Oversight Ranking of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). India's aviation security monitoring ranking has improved from 112th position to 55th position. Under the continuous monitoring approach of the Universal Safety Oversight Audit Program (USOAP), the Coordinated Validation Mission (ICVM) was launched in India from November 9 to 16, 2022.
In its statement, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said on Friday, "India's safety inspection capability ranking has improved from 112 to 55 after the last report." He said that this ranking is dynamic and depends on the results of various audits conducted by ICAO. The International Civil Aviation Organization conducts audits under this program. In India last year, LEG, ORG, PEL, OPS and AGA were covered during the audit. LEG is the primary aviation law and the specific operating regulation. ORG is Civil Aviation Organization. PEL is Personnel Licensing and Training. OPS is Aircraft Operations. AGA is Aerodrome and Ground Aid and AIR is Aircraft Airworthiness.
