A consignment of 40,000 metric tonnes of diesel from India reached Sri Lanka on Saturday. The fourth tranche of such aid arrived from New Delhi to ease power cuts in the island nation of Sri Lanka. The Indian High Commission in Colombo informed that the fuel was supplied by India to Sri Lanka.
Electricity plants have been shut down in Sri Lanka, due to which power supply has come to a standstill in 220 million homes. There is power cut for 12-12 hours every day. Several important factories have closed yesterday. Prolonged power cuts in Sri Lanka have affected the country's communication network. Sri Lanka has also been unable to pay for imports due to heavy debt and dwindling foreign reserves. This is the reason that due to this there has been a shortage of many goods in the country.
