Speaking about COSMOCABARET, Vibhanshu Doshi, a performer, says that “The show comprises mime, poetry, movement-oriented performances, Drag, Burlesque and Commedia dell'arte, which my co-performers introduced to me. Twelve artists bring their individuality to the show to spark important conversations around colourism, patriarchy and more relevant issues we need to address”.
Cosmocabaret is a one-of-a-kind collaboration by Thespo (India) in association with the Paprika Theatre Festival (Canada) and the Social Distancing Festival (Canada), supported by The Consulate General of Canada in Mumbai. Facilitated by actor-director Tsholo Visions Khalema, the collaboration aimed to connect youth from across the world, through shared stories and mixed art forms. Emerging artists sent in entries from Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Gujarat, Pune, Jaipur and Kolkata in India, as well as Windsor, Surrey and Toronto in Canada. Participants for the collaboration were selected through a video application process. Regular interactions, conversations and workshopping led to the making of COSMOCABARET - The Show, presenting 12 lived experiences in a mix of recorded and live performances.
