CM Bhagwant Mann : 16 new medical colleges to be set up in Punjab
The Chief Minister said that standard medical education would be provided to the students in these medical colleges. Considering another agenda regarding this, Bhagwant Mann ordered that the process of creation of posts for Medical College, Sangrur should be completed at the earliest.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday said that his government will set up 16 medical colleges in five years and students will no longer have to go to countries like Ukraine for medical education. Presiding over a meeting to review the status of five medical colleges to be set up at Sangrur, SAS Nagar, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur and Malerkotla, he said that this would take the total number of medical colleges in the state to 25, making Punjab a center of medical education.
The Chief Minister said, "The state has a proud legacy of producing world-class doctors." Mann said that the previous governments of Punjab did not focus on setting up quality medical colleges in the state, as a result of which a large number of students were admitted. One has to go abroad for medical education. The Chief Minister said that students who want to pursue medical education will no longer have to go to countries like Ukraine. He said that quality medical education would be provided to the students in these medical colleges.

He also asked the Public Works Department to ensure the quality of construction works related to the college and adherence to the time-limit.
He also said that it should be ensured to start the admission time from the next session. For the medical college to be built in SAS Nagar, Mohali, the Chief Minister has ordered for the next year to expedite the construction of hospitals and hostels as per the need and on an initiative basis. Similarly, he asked the Public Works Department to upgrade the medical colleges of Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur and expedite the process of issuing tenders for construction works. Bhagwant Mann instructed the department that the required process should be completed to start the work of Medical College Malerkotla immediately.
