CJI to administer oath to new Supreme Court judge Dipankar Dutta tomorrow
With the swearing-in of Justice Datta, the outgoing Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, the total strength of judges in the apex court will go up to 28. On Sunday, the Justice Department of the Union Law Ministry has issued a notification announcing his appointment.
Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud will on Monday administer the oath of office to Justice Dipankar Datta, whose name was cleared by the Center for elevation as a judge in the Supreme Court.
Justice Datta, son of former Calcutta High Court judge late Salil Kumar Datta and brother-in-law of former apex court judge Justice Amitava Roy, will take oath at 10.30 am in Court Room 1. With the swearing-in of Justice Datta, the outgoing Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, the total strength of judges in the apex court will go up to 28. On Sunday, the Justice Department of the Union Law Ministry has issued a notification announcing his appointment.
He was born on February 9, 1965, Justice Datta turns 57 this year and will have a term of office till February 8, 2030 and the retirement age in the apex court is 65 years.
In exercise of the power conferred under the Constitution of India, Justice Dipankar Datta has been appointed as Judge of the Supreme Court of India.
