British Prime Minister Liz Truss resigned on Thursday. She became the Prime Minister of Britain only a month and a half ago on 6 September 2022. Truss's short tenure of 6 weeks was filled with many controversies and he did not get a chance to recover after becoming PM. Earlier, doubts had arisen about Truss's continuation in office following Thursday's developments of the resignation of a senior minister from British Prime Minister Liz Truss's government and fierce criticism from members in the lower house of parliament.
In fact, last month the government presented an economic plan, the failure of which led to economic turmoil and political crisis. The truce last Friday ousted Krasinski Quarteng as finance minister and his successor, finance minister Jeremy Hunt, cut the government's mini-budget on Monday. Also, during his tenure, there was indiscipline in the ruling Conservative Party. Several Conservative Party leaders said Truss should resign as prime minister.
Apart from this, the situation also went against the truss with the opposition Labor Party getting a big lead in the opinion polls. In view of this, many leaders of the Conservative Party believed that there could be any hope only by removing the truss, but they are divided on how to remove them. Earlier, Indian-origin British Home Minister Suella Braverman resigned on Wednesday following a "mistake" of using her personal e-mail for ministerial communications in London. However, the turbulent position of the Truss government was considered to be the reason behind his resignation.
