British Prime Minister Liz Truss resigns, became PM only 6 weeks ago

British Prime Minister Liz Truss resigned on Thursday. She became the Prime Minister of Britain only a month and a half ago on 6 September 2022. Truss's short tenure of 6 weeks was filled with many controversies and he did not get a chance to recover after becoming PM. Earlier, doubts had arisen about Truss's continuation in office following Thursday's developments of the resignation of a senior minister from British Prime Minister Liz Truss's government and fierce criticism from members in the lower house of parliament.

In fact, last month the government presented an economic plan, the failure of which led to economic turmoil and political crisis. The truce last Friday ousted Krasinski Quarteng as finance minister and his successor, finance minister Jeremy Hunt, cut the government's mini-budget on Monday. Also, during his tenure, there was indiscipline in the ruling Conservative Party. Several Conservative Party leaders said Truss should resign as prime minister.

However, the turbulent position of the Truss government was considered to be the reason behind his resignation.

Liz Truss won the first election as councillor. Liz's family was a supporter of the Labor Party, but Truss liked the ideology of the Conservative Party. Truss is considered a staunch supporter of the right wing. In 2010, Truss was elected MP for the first time. Truss was initially against the issue of leaving the European Union. However, later came out in support of Boris Johnson, who emerged as the hero of Brexit. The British media often compares him to former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
