Bharat Biotech MD Krishna Murthy and Suchitra Ella honored with Padma Bhushan

Dr. Krishna Murthy Ella and Suchitra Krishna Ella, MDs of Bharat Biotech's Covaxin manufacturer, have been honored with the Padma Bhushan award. On Monday, President Ram Nath Kovind honored him with the Padma Bhushan. Both Bharat Biotech and Serum Institute of India have led the country towards becoming self-reliant in corona vaccine production.

Covaxin is India's first indigenous corona vaccine. Along with awarding Dr. Krishna Murthy, President Ram Nath Kovind has also honored Olympic gold winner Neeraj Chopra and singer Sonu Nigam with Padma Shri.

Dr. Krishna Ella started his career by joining the pharmaceutical and life sciences company Bayer as part of its agriculture department. He later moved to the US to pursue higher studies and returned in 1996 to set up a small laboratory in Hyderabad. During this he named it Bharat Biotech.
