This has been announced in the new education policy released by the Gujarat government on Thursday. Under the new education policy, the principles and values of Bhagvad Gita will now be taught to the children of class VI to XII in all the schools of the state.

In a statement issued by the government, it has been said that in order to enable school children to know the knowledge of Gita and its values, oratory competition, Shloka Gaan and literature will also be organized on Gita. The Gujarat government has announced to teach the Bhagavad Gita in schools at a time when assembly elections are about to be held in the state.
The Gujarat assembly elections are likely to be held in November or December this year. This is because the tenure of the present government in the state will end on February 18, 2023. The state is currently ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government. There are 182 assembly seats in the state and to get a clear majority in the assembly, any party or coalition of parties needs to reach the majority mark which is 92 in the state.
