At Red Fort, Prime Minister Urges The Nation To Applaud Achievement Of Olympic Athletes, As They Inspire Future Generations
Olympic Gold medalist Neeraj Chopra, who attended the Independence day celebration, said, “We used to see the Flag hoisting on TV, today we are able to see it, sitting there itself, this is a new experience for us. I am happy that the country is feeling proud because of my achievement.”
New Delhi: The 75th Independence Day celebration has become memorable for the Olympic medal winner athletes of the country. They have been invited by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to attend the function at Red Fort, as a special Guest. For them, this is like 'The icing on the cake'. Not only medal winners but all, who were part of the Indian contingent, around 240 Olympians, support staff, and Sports Authority of India and sports federation officials were part of the celebrations at the Red Fort. PM Modi lauded their performances and said they are an inspiration for future generations also. Lauding the 2020 Olympic contingent, the PM said, “Athletes who have made us proud at Tokyo Olympics are here amongst us today. I urge the nation to applaud their achievement today. They have not only won our hearts but also inspired future generations.”
PM Modi asked the people to clap for a few minutes in honour of these sportspersons who have brought laurels for the country. After finishing his speech, Pm Modi got down from his car to meet the Olympic Contingent, he greeted them by waving his hands.
He said, "India’s young generation has made our country proud at the Tokyo Olympics. All such athletes are amongst us today. They have not only won our hearts but also inspired our young generation.The way India has kept the stoves burning for the poor's house by providing free food grains to 80 crore countrymen continuously for months during the pandemic is not only astonishing to the world but also a matter of discussion."
Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra, who was down with fever and sore throat, few days back, underwent an RT-PCR test on the advice of doctors which has been reported negative. Due to fever and sore throat, he was unable to attend his felicitation by the Haryana government.
Neeraj was present, Yesterday, at ‘High Tea’ hosted by the President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind and he also attended the Independence Day Celebration at Red Fort on Sunday. Neeraj, before attending the Independence day celebration said, “We used to see the Flag hoisting on TV, today we are able to see it, sitting there itself, this is a new experience for us. I am happy that the country is feeling proud because of my achievement.”
