The NCPCR said that their data is based on information provided by the states and union territories on the Bal Swaraj Portal-Kovid Care. The commission said that according to the data till January 11, since April 2020, 10,094 children were orphaned in the country, 1 lakh 36 thousand 910 children lost a parent and 488 children were abandoned by their parents. Altogether this number is 1,47,492.
Among these children, the maximum 59,010 children are between the ages of 8 and 13. This is followed by 22,763 children in the age group of 14 to 15 years. There are 22,626 children in the age group of 16 to 18 years and 26,080 in the age group of 4 to 7 years.Of these, 1,25,205 children are with their parents, 11,272 children are living with a family member while 8,450 are under the care of another guardian.
