Ajinkya Rahane’s batting has earned praise from everyone. He scored 112 runs before he got run out in the second test against Australia in Melbourne.
Legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar was so impressed with his batting that he thinks it is 'one of the most important hundreds in the history of Indian cricket'.
But that’s not all. What has impressed billions of cricket lovers across the world is his sportsmanship which is rare in any game these days.
While batting at 49, Ravindra Jadeja wanted to get a quick single to complete his half-century and he pushed one of Nathan Lyon’s deliveries on the offside to score a run.
Rahane, who was on the non-striker end, cooperated and ran without bothering whether he would finish it. It looked like he completed the run but on wicketkeeper Paine’s appeal, the decision was referred to the third umpire. The decision to give him run out surprised many as it looked like he almost touched the finishing line.
But Instead of throwing any tantrum or showing any disappointment, he patted on Jadeja’s chest with a gesture to encourage him to play and score big.
Cricketers and fans noticed and heaped praise on him for his composed and calm response and amazing sportsmanship.
Tom Moody, Former cricketer who is a coach now, wrote on his Twitter handle, “Again @ajinkyarahane88 showing leadership begins with actions, his response to his fate was true of a genuine team man!”
Brad Hogg, the former Australian cricketer, called Rahane’s gesture as a true team man and wrote on his Twitter handle, “Fantastic knock by Rahane! But the ultimate moment is his reaction after the decision, encouraging Jadeja with positive body language. True team man.”
