The popularity of UP's Yogi Baba bulldozer action has reached Gujarat via Madhya Pradesh. In Gujarat's Khambhat, the administration has bulldozed the shops of stone pelters on the procession of Ram Navami. The administration stated that these shops were built illegally in front of a Mazar (dargah) at the site of violence. Apart from Khambhat in Gujarat, stones were pelted in Himmatnagar and Dwarka on Ramnavami. One person was killed and 15 policemen were injured in stone-pelting in Khambhat.
The Khambhat administration on the action of running bulldozers on the shops said that "It was all illegal construction, which has been demolished. In view of security, a large number of police forces were deployed during this operation. The SDM and many other big officers were also present there during this action."
The administration further added that criminal activities were being conducted from the illegal constructions here, so action was taken. Strict action will be taken against those who spread violence in this way.
On the occasion of Ram Navami, a procession was taken out from Ramji temple in the Shankarpura area of Khambhat city at 4 pm on Sunday with DJ. More than three thousand devotees gathered in the procession. The procession was to pass through three gates of Chitri Bazar, Peeth Bazar, and Mandai Chowki area. However, after leaving the Shankarpura area, the procession had reached some distance when some rioters from the Acacia fields suddenly started pelting stones at the procession. After this, there was a stampede among the people involved in the procession. After this stone pelting started from both sides.
According to the Khambhat police, the plot of the riot was hatched by three clerics and two others from Khambhat itself. So far 9 people, including the three clerics, have been arrested. To carry out the plot of the riot, the clerics had called people from outside Khambhat, so that they could not be identified. At the same time, a day before the procession, stones were collected in the fields, and the locations from where they'd be thrown were decided prior.
