After ‘Broken Promises’ Allegation: Former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi wrote a letter to newly sworn-in Chief Minister Rekha Gupta today, questioning the BJP government's failure to pass a promised financial assistance scheme for women in its first cabinet meeting on Thursday.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi on Thursday accused Delhi's new, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government of ‘breaking its promise’ after chief minister Rekha Gupta-led cabinet, in its first meeting, passed two agenda items, which did not include the proposal to provide financial assistance of ₹2,500 per month, a pre-poll promise from the saffron party for Delhi's women.

"First of all, heartiest congratulations to you on assuming the charge of the post of Chief Minister of Delhi," Atishi's letter reads. "Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Prime Minister of the country, Shri Narendra Modi ji, had promised the mothers and sisters of Delhi in a rally organized on January 31, 2025, during the election campaign that after the formation of the BJP government, a scheme of Rs 2,500 per month would be passed for them in the very first cabinet meeting. He said - this is Modi's guarantee."
She further said that the BJP-led Delhi government held its first cabinet meeting on February 20, but the scheme was not passed. "The mothers and sisters of Delhi had believed in Modi ji's guarantee, and now they feel cheated," she added.
The AAP leader expressed concern about the scheme's absence from the first cabinet meeting and noted the disappointment among Delhi's women.
"The women of Delhi trusted Modi Ji's guarantee, and now they feel deceived," she stated in the letter.
Atishi requested time from the Chief Minister to discuss the matter further. "The AAP legislative delegation wishes to meet you on February 23 to discuss this issue. On behalf of lakhs of women in Delhi, I humbly request you to spare some time from your busy schedule so that we can present our case for concrete action on this scheme."
