The victims were driving three oxen from Chittorgarh's Begun town to their village in Madhya Pradesh for agricultural labour when a gang of people attacked them with sticks, suspecting them of smuggling cows, as per police.
On the night of 13th - 14th June, the event occurred near Bhilkhanda. “Babu Bhil and Pintu Bhil, both from Madhya Pradesh's Jhabua area, were gravely injured in the attack and taken to a hospital, where Babu Bhil succumbed to his injuries," said Superintendent of Police Deepak Bhargav.
Police reported on Tuesday that ten persons have been arrested for allegedly lynching a man on suspicion of cow smuggling.
Victims were carrying three oxen in a vehicle, as per Circle Officer Begun Rajendra Singh. “The locals accused them of smuggling cows and assaulted them. Animals, on the other hand, were oxen. The wounded guy indicated that he and Babu bought the oxen in Chittorgarh's Begun town and were transporting them to their hamlet for farming work,” he stated.
Pintu was unable to present any purchase documents, according to the police, and the animal trader was summoned to verify his allegation.
In Jaipur, Additional Director General of Crime Ravi Meherda said, "A case of murder has been lodged and serious action would be taken."
He further said that the Udaipur range of the Inspector General of Police has also reached Chittorgarh.
