Court working towards creating its own live streaming platform, Chief Justice of India said
The bench said, “The arguments in the court are taking place in another context and the 10-second clip is uploaded without any context and there is no mention of what happened before or after that. That's why we are taking cognizance of it.
Supreme Court is working towards making its own live streaming platform. The court on Friday said it is taking steps to develop its 'judicial infrastructure' to stream the hearings of the cases so that "the sanctity of the judiciary is maintained". The viewing of streaming will be allowed to 'authentic persons' such as plaintiff/defendant etc. Noting that sometimes 'short clips' are available on social media without proper context. Explain that the Supreme Court was hearing a petition filed on various aspects of live streaming.
A bench of CJI Dhananjay Y. Chandrachud and Justice Hima Kohli said it would have to frame uniform rules for live streaming, possibly for the entire country, and lay down standard operating procedures for digitization of court records. The bench was hearing a petition filed by senior advocate Indira Jaising on various aspects of live streaming. Jaising, in his petition, said that short clips of court hearings are continuously being circulated on social media like Instagram, they will not have any proper context and hence there is a need to frame appropriate rules in this regard.
Chief Justice of India said that it is important that we have our own solution. After its streaming, viewing rights can be given to bonafide people like lawyers, litigants/defendants, research scholars or law colleges etc. That too for authentic use. ”He said that sometimes clips are also seen out of context. The bench said, “The arguments in the court are taking place in another context and the 10-second clip is uploaded without any context and there is no mention of what happened before or after that. That's why we are taking cognizance of it.
