Avalanche in Uttarakhand: Mountaineer Savita Kanswal died in Avalanche
Savita made a new national record by climbing both the mountains in such a short time. In the year 2021, Savita Kanswal successfully climbed the world's fourth highest peak Mount Lhotse (8516 m) under the Everest Massif expedition. Savita is the second woman mountaineer from India to hoist the tricolor on Mount Lhotse.

Savita Kanswal, daughter of Uttarkashi, who made a national record by hoisting the tricolor on Everest on 12 May 2022, was a brave mountaineer. Savita was Nim's best and encouraging coach. Savita, the youngest of four sisters, became a strong support for her aged parents and earned them respect and recognition on many platforms. Savita also died after being hit by an avalanche in Uttarkashi.
Young mountaineer Savita Kanswal, resident of village Launthru, Bhatwadi block of Uttarkashi district, also successfully climbed Mount Makalu peak within 15 days after climbing Mount Everest this year. He hoisted the tricolor on Mount Everest on 12 May 2022 and successfully scaled Mount Makalu (8463 m) on 28 May.

Studied from government school, Savita did the basic course of mountaineering from Nehru Mountaineering Institute Uttarkashi in the year 2013 and then advanced and search and rescue course along with mountaineering instructor course. To collect the course fees, Savita also worked in a company in Dehradun. Savita was posted as a trainer in Nim since the year 2018.
